Why am I waiting for the Galaxy S3?

Being seen with my dated but faithful (and fully exploited ;-) ) N70, I have been hammered with constant ridicule and sympathetic glances.

And being an android fan since long, I often had a techno-urge, countless times last year, to jump on the Galaxy S2 bandwagon. But I had been restraining myself after hearing about what the coming future (read S3) would be bringing as the latest technology (under-the-hood).

Going with the specifications and speculations around the web, it appears that S3 is going to be big; perhaps one of the all time best Android smartphones that could see the light of the day.

Some [constantly updated and ground-breaking] specifications include -

  • 4.7 / 4.8-inch full HD 1080P resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio. [DISPUTED with 720P]
  • 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor. [all in consensus]
  • Front facing 2 MP camera for video calling and an 12 or 8 MP rear camera. [news WRT 12 MP is more rampant]
  • Hosts Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. [Ok]
  • Ceramic case with [probably] inductive charging support [and that too out of the box!]

So, this son of a beast is expected in mid 2012 [some say early May] and in time for the iPhone / Android show-down too.

Lets hope, my decision to wait for something better than an S2, actually turns out right.

This could very well be technological history in creation. Lets see.

And seriously, now is the worst time ever to buy an android phone!

Brainwashing – This is how our society is controlled by the medium.

image

Although something which seems out of a sci-fi novel, Brainwashing is very real and very common.

As per Wikipedia, “Mind control or brainwashing / coercive persuasion / mind abuse / thought control etc. refers to a process in which a group or individual "systematically uses unethically manipulative methods to persuade others to conform to the wishes of the manipulator(s), often to the detriment of the person being manipulated"

This post at life-hacker tells us about Brainwashing Techniques You Encounter Every Day (and How to Avoid Them)

Now you know why people you loathe, generally always succeed (in politics or whatever else).

And now, ALPHABET ANIMALS!

Alphabetimals ! Now this is how learning gets interesting! Alphabetimals is something the inquisitive young minds will love!

It matches each alphabet with the animal name concept, which while not new, is presented in a cute and easily identifiable way! It really should help dads and mums with pre-schoolers on board!

The main USP is flip book approach with animal sounds as well as pronunciation of animal names.

Although I am yet to try this with my own 2 year old, let’s hope you there (and him here!) have as much fun on this as I did!

image

The Facebook page of the site offers posters and Flash cards which you can print for further offline fun!

Bonus Animal Alphabet video!

Now go ahead and have some quality time with your little brats!

Mystery Cometh… - Russian Scientists Drilling into 20 million year old Vostok, the Antarctic Lake, Fall Silent….

image

A team of Russian researchers in Antarctica from Russia's Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) had been drilling for weeks to reach the 20 million years old subglacial water body.

Quoting io9.com:
“Vostok is thought to harbor conditions similar to those of Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus, and the discovery of life in the lake's inky depths would significantly strengthen the prospect of discovering life on either of these icy bodies.”

AND Now they cannot be contacted. They have been under radio silence since 5 days (and counting).

The scientists were on the verge of boring the two mile ice surface and breaking in the lake which is as older as the Dinosaurs.

It may seem as a plot of a 2012 sci-fi thriller…. but you never know…. 20 million years is a really long time.

I mean, what course evolution or natural selection took, considering the ecology of something as frigid as this, is anyone's guess.

Countless movies have been made, mystery science fiction has been written, but still we are constantly inquisitive and human curiosity always needs proof.

But now what actually has happened is but a speculation limited only by our deepest fears….

Solar Storm–The after effects!

Well, as promised, here is something really spectacular! This is a video from you tube of this awesome show of lights!

As if Earthly Storms weren’t enough, here comes the Solar Storm!

image

While you are reading this, a huge solar eruption is causing the strongest solar charge storm since 2005.

The Solar Eruption happened on Jan 22 2012. A solar eruption causes sudden release of super charged particles which are right now heading towards Earth at about 2,000 km per second!

Tip!For people having a rusty astronomy knowledge base, head here for a quick FAQ / overview of what I am talking about!

The experts at SpaceWeather.com is providing up to the minute updates about the same.

The current intensity of this storm is rated as “strong” or S3, meaning it could be potentially a radiation exposure for passengers in international flights. It will probably also disrupt satellite operations and degrade HF radio communications. GPS operations should continue as usual due to the location corrections and satellite homing delays. But operations like mining, refineries etc. which require live GPS coordinating could be affected.

Although this is a higher than usual radiation intensity, we should all be OK due to the magnetic field around Earth, which is actually protecting us.

So all good till 21st Dec 2012 !

A certain positive side effect of ongoing episode would certainly be stronger (read more beautiful) than normal displays of Earth’s auroras. I will post some aurora pictures as they come up here and there over the web in the natural course of time.

Update: A sample is here – Click for source and more images!

Simply beautiful, isn't it!

TIPS: How To: Get rid of the Blinking Flash Issue on Firefox!

image

Having Firefox? CHECK.

Having a flash intensive site opened right now (Like YouTube)? CHECK.

Having the flash frame blinking repeatedly (even if no video playing in You Tube)? CHECK!

Well, if you answered all the above correctly, you have my sympathies. Because this pain in the butt problem has a small solution, which is not easily googled up in results.

Anyways, assuming you are having the browser up and running, fire up the Firefox add-ons window as below -

ALT+T for TOOLS > OPTIONS > GENERAL > MANAGE ADD ONS…

image

NOTE: The Geek shortcut – Ctrl + Shift + A will do the same stuff as above (you should have just the Firefox tabs open).

Ensure that you have selected the Plugins from the left options list (last option).

Scroll to the Shockwave Flash XXXXX entry, where XXXXX is your version of flash.

image

Now quickly hit disable. And Enable again. Check your flickering flash page (if the above solution has worked, you will have the issue resolved immediately).

You can go ahead thank me in the comments ;-)
