Well, if you are into O.S. 'Virtualization', maybe for checking out new any O.S. or just maintaining a different segregated environment, chances are you have faced this problem.
I am referring to the System speaker Beep in your VMware image. For the un-initiated,
VMware is a virtualization software that allows users to run O.S. inside an O.S.
Anyways following is a moderately easy sequence of steps to achieve the same (we would be altering the VMware Config File) -
- Press the "Windows" key and "E" to open Windows Explorer.
- Navigate to the following folder if you use XP or Vista:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Workstation - OR - If you use Windows 7, navigate to this folder instead:
C:\ProgramData\VMWare - Open the "VMware Workstation" OR "VMware" folder.
- Locate the "config.ini" file. (NOTE: In-case you do not see this file, you can create a blank text file and save it as 'all files' with name - 'config.ini' (i.e. the VMware Config File.)
- Now open this (new/existing) file with any file editor.
- Add this to the end of the file (or the beginning if it is a blank file!) - mks.noBeep="TRUE"
- Save the file and close it.
- Remember to restart the image in your VMware application.
Voila! No more annoying beeps!
Now go on and try this!
